Robert J. Kadner became an internationally recognized microbiologist with his research on microbial physiology, which spanned four decades. As a leading figure in fostering graduate and medical education, he received many teaching awards.

As a tribute to this outstanding career, the Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology Department holds the Annual Kadner Distinguished Lecture in Microbiology in the Fall of each year.
